Somali Ambassador to Algeria Meets National Police Chief to Strengthen Security Cooperation

Algiers, Algeria — The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Algeria, Ambassador Yusuf Ahmed Hassan (Yusuf Jeego), held a high-level meeting with Algeria’s National Police Chief, General Ali Badawi, to discuss strengthening bilateral security cooperation between the two nations.
The discussions centered on enhancing police capacity-building, particularly in specialized training, institutional development, and the adoption of modern investigative technologies — including forensics, fingerprint analysis, DNA testing, and crime scene investigation techniques.
The meeting marks a significant step in deepening security collaboration between Somalia and Algeria, two nations that share historical ties and mutual interests in combating terrorism and organized crime across North Africa and the Horn of Africa.
Ambassador Yusuf Jeego commended Algeria for its longstanding support to Somalia in areas of security, education, and diplomacy, noting that closer cooperation in police development would contribute to Somalia’s broader security reform agenda.
General Badawi, for his part, reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness to provide technical and training assistance to the Somali Police Force, emphasizing that regional stability depends on collective and coordinated efforts among African states.
The meeting is part of ongoing diplomatic engagements aimed at revitalizing brotherly relations and expanding strategic partnerships between the two countries — particularly in law enforcement, intelligence sharing, and counterterrorism.
The talks between Ambassador Yusuf Jeego and General Ali Badawi highlight a growing trend in Somalia’s foreign policy: leveraging African partnerships to strengthen its internal security institutions. As Somalia continues to rebuild its state apparatus, such cooperation with Algeria signals a pragmatic approach — blending regional solidarity with practical steps toward professionalizing the nation’s security sector.
